A hard working farmer, 45 years, limited education, but has a strong desire to experiment. Years ago his family had migrated from Pakistan and settled down in water logged pard of Karnal district of Haryana. There they had tried to grow cotton successfully on the ridges.
Cotton Cultivation In Water Stress Condition:
In water stress condition, the sowing pattern of cotton is changed, i.e., the sowing is done on the ridges of water channel, which is two feet in width and each channel is separated by the distance of six feets. Water is applied in the channel, the six feet space is left as such. This reduces the water requirement and controls the weeds. Controls wilt and other ball diseases, yield remains equal to normal sowing pattern.
More than hundred farmers have emulated his experience and saved on irrigation and seed cost and have achieved higher yields. Scientists are still to learn though, from his revolutionary innovation in cultivation of cotton and other such crops.
